Bob and Jo Riley "retired" to Steamboat Springs from Palm Beach, Florida to take over the Alpine Rose Bed And Breakfast. Jo managed a home with 4 children for 30 years and spent 10 years as an administrative assistant in the Palm Beach, Florida School District. Bob spent 40 years in education as a teacher, school administrator, district administrator and finally as Executive Director of a National Education Association. After Jo's passing, Bob began to pass the running of the B&B onto Rachael. During the summer you will find him road biking in the morning and enjoying a glass of wine on the deck in the afternoon. During the winter Bob enjoys visiting family and seeking warmer places the visit.
Rachael grew up in Maine helping out around her parent's Bed and Breakfast on Mount Desert Island. After high school she moved to Colorado to pursue her passion working with horses. Rachael spent two years managing the equine program for an area guest ranch where she worked along side Bob and Jo's son Zac. She later began helping around the B&B and now manages it, allowing Bob to experience retirement to the fullest. Rachael loves starting each morning with a gourmet breakfast and tips for the day's activities. When not taking care of guests, Rachael enjoys riding horses in the back country, hiking with the family dog Ellsworth, and fishing.
As so many of our guests will tell you, Ellsworth is the real star of your stay. Eagerly awaiting your arrival on the staircase, Ellsworth will make you feel right at home. Ellsworth came to the Riley family as a puppy and has always enjoyed the B&B life. As a Bernese Mountain Dog, winter is Ellsworth's favorite season. When not taking his official greeter job seriously, he enjoys long walks in the park, eating snow, and belly rubs.
